How do you choose a domain names for your sites?

I'm wondering how do you choose a domain name for your sites?
Do you put a lot of mind into it?
What do you consider when choosing one? What do you try to avoid?

It gets harder and harder to come up with a short and catchy domain name as most of them are premium and cost hundreds and thousands of dollars.
So I'm curious how do you approach this step of your website creation.

I used domain name generator to choose one interested then order from one of the seller on bhw
 
Domain name generators generally gives you many words/ideas that you can work with.

If you find a domain that you like, get it instantly and don't wait for tomorrow because if it is good it will be gone while you are asleep.

It takes me alot of time to come up with a name because I always want it to be perfect.

I generally use LeanDomainSearch for generating ideas around my chosen word. Overtime, I've ended up saving words that can be combined with other words for future use.

For e.g if I find JuicerAdvisor to be a good fit, I'd save the word Advisor and in the future look at my saved words and see if something fits. Otherwise, back to thinking of other alternatives.
 
I put a lot of thought in to purchasing domains , because I want it to be perfect. Easy to remember, brandable and looks professional. I end up purchasing several domains before I end up with one that really works. Its kind of a process I go through.

I end up using the other domains as related sites to build out PBNs that are niche related (thats the plan anyways). Build out money site, then build out PBN using left over domain ideas.

I will renew them for 3-4 years, then transfer over to another domain register under different names to reduce foot print and then put them on cheap hosting accounts.
 
I use a domain name generator like name mash. It's save me a lot of time. I dont put a lot of mind to it, no. I just want it to relevant. Also avoid brand name words on your domain name like Coca-Cola studio. You will not be able to rank your domain name. So if someone searches for Coca-Cola studio , Coca-Cola company will show up. You don't want that to happen. Also before buying it just google it and see if there's no high authority site is on top search results.
 
I think of 3-5 ULTRA relevant, catchy and brandable words for my niche and then type those into namemesh.com and scroll down on the page of results until I find around 20-30 names that I like, and then narrow down further until I remain with several of them that are decently short, brandable, and relevant to my niche. I wait 1-2 days for my poor brain to recover and then I go over the list again and the one that calls out to me the most I register. That's how I ended up with 3 great domain names for my sites several months ago, which I'm not going to disclose obviously :p
 
I used to invest a lot of time in the domain selection until I noticed how irrelevant it is and how difficult is to drive direct traffic to a domain. For a couple of years I used to access this forum by typing in google "black hat forum" because I could not even remember that it was called "black hat world". So you can imagine how irrelevant the domain and the branding in general is when talking about direct traffic.

And if you are thinking about exact matches for SEO purpose, forget about it. A complete waste of time. If you let me choose between a good linking profile DA30 expiring domain from some sort of similar niche as the site I'm looking to build with a weird name and a perfect EMD .COM, I will choose the first hands down.

How can i find an expiring domain with this huge DA with no spamming? Is that a million dollar question?
Can you help me to find a way?
