Hey all,

As the title says, when you take a dump of a large number of backlinks from any of the tools (semrush/ahrefs/or any other tool), how do you categorize/mark each backlink if that is relevant to your website or not. Checking each website manually is time-consuming.

There´s no tool that will tell you how relevant a link is, this is something you need to determine on your own based on variables like the page type (lead gen, local lander, blog post, etc) and its content.

Other than that, what I like to focus on when evaluating the quality of the link is...
  • Organic traffic
  • Link placement
  • Anchor text used
  • On-Page SEO
  • Type of link (editorial, sponsored, local directory, social media, blog comment, etc)
Lastly, I like to also conduct a quick "backlink audit" to check certain metrics on a more general level...
  • ********: Nofollow ratio
  • Referring pages: Referring domain ratio
  • Link velocity
This is what I usually take into account when conducting a backlink profile analysis or a "link audit".

I hope this helps, cheers!

For me, More or less what Roger said, and I also assign a relevancy score from 0 to 3, plus I mark all spam to leave it aside.

With big bulk of sites I also check the OBL ratio, just to highlight sites that may be worth a deeper look, but that's a kind of check I find even more important on page-to-page level
