White hat links = value + outreach. Best ones: guest posts on real sites, niche edits on relevant content, HARO-style mentions, and linkable assets (guides, stats, tools). Build relationships, not just links—those stick long-term.
 
First create the value on your site, a custom case study, review, creative content, something worth sharing.

Then create the outreach system, find the sites that would most likely cover your content.
 
The key is not just having better content, but identifying the specific 'pain points' of the site owners you're reaching out to so your link feels like a genuine upgrade for their readers

Guest posting on relevant niche sites, digital PR (getting mentioned in articles), creating linkable assets like guides/tools, and doing genuine outreach for resource page or broken link opportunities are still the safest white hat methods. Focus on relevance and real value, not volume.
 
You’re on the right track focusing on long-term methods. What’s worked best for me is creating content that’s genuinely worth referencing, then doing simple, targeted outreach to people already writing in that space.

Building backlinks from high-quality guest posts and from websites within the same niche makes your link profile appear more natural and reduces the risk of being flagged as spam.

lol saying that any manual building is breaking rules is a bit much. I’ve been doing outreach for quite a while now and there is a massive difference between spamming and actually talking to site owners. If u provide real value or a solid guest post, it’s just networking. As long as the link is relevant and natural, google doesn't care. white hat is just about doing it smart instead of blasting thousands of shitty emails.

Another safe way is guest posting on real blogs, not link farms, offer original, valuable articles in your niche, a single link from a relevant blog is worth more than a hundred from junk directories, the key is that the article is so good the blog owner is happy to publish it, you can also take advantage of unlinked mentions, use alerts to detect when your brand is mentioned without a link and contact the author with a friendly message, the success rate is high, and it doesn't violate any rules, in the end, the links that come organically because your content is good are the ones that last the longest and are the ones Google rewards the most.
 
If you place links yourself, you are already violating Google’s guidelines. Any link that is artificially placed to your website, or that you paid for, already violates Google’s rules.

The only backlinks that do not violate Google’s guidelines are those that are given voluntarily by people without your influence over the process. Everything else, by default, is a violation of Google’s rules.
 
Over time if your stuff is solid links start coming in more naturally anyway and that’s usually the most stable way to grow.

Niche edits aren't White Hat at all.

If you want "good guy" links then you need content that is citable and a brand worth trusting.
That's hard and costly. It's also why people fake it until they make it with a gray hat approach.
