Does anyone have any tips or tricks they have used to beat aged sites in the SERPS?

I am working in a niche which has some very old sites (1999 ? 2001) dominating. These are older style sites and have not been updated for years. They are not optimised for SEO and don?t even have that many links.

One site I am trying to rank is a 2005 site which is better in every way, but I just can?t mix it with the old men.

I?d be really interested to hear from anyone who has had luck with this.

Age can be beaten. But anything BH will only get you there for a very short time. Us aged domain people protect our niche's. Trust me if you BH your way into one of my aged niches. Google will find out. It wont be me reporting you. I dont do that shit! I do plenty BH myself so I would be hypocritical. I don't have to do anything my competitors will do it for me. So if you are white hatting then you got a good chance. If you Black hatting then you got a better chance! for a short period of time ;)

Get an older domain than them :) It's more about how long your pages have been around these days rather than domain age. but keep at it..

    Cheers all.

I don't usually go into established niches, but this one is kind of an interest of mine rather than me going in just to make money.

It is interesting how an old site, with little in the way of helpful info, few backlinks an few updates can hold on to its position when big G keep banging on about how the user experience and usefulness of the site is so important. I'm sure they just say this stuff sometimes to please the shareholders.

Beyond being at least ten months old I haven't found age to be a prominent factor in page 1 sort order. Focusing on other factors does work in many cases.

I have a site that basically looks like a MFA site but it aint because it was around pre-adsense LOL. Anyway it is basically one page although lately I have added a few pages to fill it out. But it sits at the top of google for a 600k/month niche. Google likes and trusts it. Is all. Also it is only PR 2. Might be giving away too much now. All this site has going for it is age. It has sat there giving the same info for over 10 years.

And once again, try to get a dropped domain that is old(ish) and has been up constantly in sth related. Then add the silmilar relevant content of your niche, adding sth on a daily basis and work on links, both old-school and social. And video. Doing this you should reach your goal quite quickly!

I would not exclude BH altogether, but do it via a buffer, promoting you web2 profiles, videos and PReleases.

First of all, You need to analyze your competitors ( PR,Aged, Dmoz & Yahoo Directory, BL etc.). I recommend using Market Samurai.

After that try searching on BHW. You will find gold mine.:)

Make sure you domain is registered for at least 5 years
I have 10 years old domain dominating my niche with no BL work on my side, people would link back to it from time to time. But recently I have noticed it losses its rankings to some hungry young players. And guess what? All I had to do was, extend my registration period which was only up to 2011, for another 5 years and I was back #1 week after.
