How Do Reddit Upvotes Work in 2025?

I’m trying to understand how Reddit’s upvote system works nowadays. I know it's not as simple as just getting a bunch of upvotes anymore. Can anyone shed light on the following?


  • Does account age or karma affect how much weight an upvote carries?
  • Is there a difference in impact between early upvotes vs. later ones?
  • Do bot upvotes still work, or are they easily detected now?
  • How important is engagement (comments, saves, shares) vs. just upvotes?
  • Does subreddit size or activity affect how upvotes rank your post?
  • Any insight on vote fuzzing or score delay that Reddit uses?

Just looking for updated info or experiences from people who’ve tested this recently.

Yes, they do. Upvotes from warmed-up accounts (accounts with history and natural activity) with age and karma will always stick more

Yes early upvotes have more impact because they have greater power to make a post trend. Over time, later upvotes hold less value for trending potential. However it's a double-edged sword and adding too many upvotes in a short time can trigger spam filters.

Yes they do. Even if detected, it won’t matter much if you add them in moderation and your account has some authority. Post upvotes are considered safer than comment upvotes. Avoid buying upvotes on a completely new account as it invites shadow bans. Most influencers and business owners rely on botted upvotes more than ever.

Comments matter a lot. Saves and shares don't have much effect in my experience.

Size does not have a direct impact, but activity does. A larger size means more members, and more members lead to more activity. The post that ranks highest is the one with the most upvotes in the shortest time compared to others. This varies from subreddit to subreddit. Some subreddits have many posts but few upvotes, so buying 5-10 upvotes can easily help a post trend at the top of the hot section.

Yes, Reddit uses vote fuzzing (showing slightly inaccurate vote counts) and score delay (slowing score updates) to prevent spam and manipulation, especially during peak hours. This makes it harder for bots and users to game the voting system. But this is used on the new Reddit interface only, the old Reddit still seems to be lacking it. So a good Reddit upvote system will use both Reddit interfaces to track the service delivery.
 
With OP's permission, I would like to ask something too. I opened a reddit channel. How can I grow it or attract members?
 
I think the Reddit has changed the system of upvotes a bit, for example, in the past when you posted you had to send all the upvotes after the post was published so Reddit started to push the post to the top. Nowadays, this doesn't work the same and you have to send the upvotes in batches instead of sending all of them in one go, so, you send 30% of the upvotes when you post, and you send the other upvotes during the day.
I noticed that when you send all the upvotes at the start, a new post that is starting to gain upvotes will outrank you even if the post has 100 less upvotes than you and that is happening because now your post is not gaining upvotes like you did when you just published

Actually, you can use tools to simulate real people for upvotes and comments. Typically, you can set the time interval for each upvote and comment.
 
Upvotes do work, just that all providers are overused, you need to have your own private accounts to do upvotes!
 
Up they do work, especially when they're tied to warmed up accounts that's aged and with a lot of interactions.

OK. Let's actually take on all of these questions.

  • Does account age or karma affect how much weight an upvote carries?
Both will affect how aggressive your upvoting can be.
  • Is there a difference in impact between early upvotes vs. later ones?
YES. It literally takes less than a minute to quickly check the reddit posts of a group and get a feel for the upper limits. Don't find a worthwhile post and ruin all your good research by trying to blast a comment off into oblivion by upvoting a comment 200 times in a subreddit that typically only gets natural comment upvotes of say, 20 in X amount of time. Reddit isn't stupid. Pro Tip: Submit 2 or 3 upvote orders per comment, on different speeds as opposed to one order set at XX per hour.
  • Do bot upvotes still work, or are they easily detected now?
YES. They work incredibly well. Providing you're using suitable accounts FOR THE SUBREDDIT YOU TARGET. An account you buy that will may work well on a 20k or less member subreddit will not perform the same on a 50k, 100k, etc. Size of subreddit and age/karma of your account are probably the most important algorithmic factors resulting in non collapsed (or outright shadowed) comment. Better the account - higher the target subreddit. Pro Tip: Don't just upvote your comment. Downvote the top 1,2,3 comments (within 24hours) at the same time. Similarly, upvote the post itself that you're commenting on, and downvote competing posts if they are less than 24 hours old. Both these tactics simulate more natural activity.

We don't personally focus on this whatsoever; and we are getting good results consistently over 5 months to date. Other BHW members will be better positioned to answer this question.

NO. However, your account age, karma, activity, warmup DOES. Again, cannot stress this enough: An account you buy that will may work well on a 20k or less member subreddit will not perform the same on a 50k, 100k, etc. Size of subreddit and age/karma of your account + warmup is probably the most important algorithmic factor.

Bet early upvotes from old accounts hit hardest, but Reddit’s 2025 algo leans heavy on shares and delays scores to weed out bots.
