I was wondering that how exactly do proxy providers get the servers to host their proxies.
If they host it on normal cloud VPS like digitalocean, OVH etc then they will soon get violation notice as some of their clients will try to access some illegal content from the proxies and so their account is at risk of termination. Also the VPS providers aren't cheap if you want to scale.

So how do these guys get so many servers?

OVH and similar companies is the way to go. Digitalocean is more expensive since you can't have multiple ips.

You could get proxies for ~$0.40 on OVH with a single server with multiple ips.

OVH has 2 limits of ips:

    * VPS can have up to 16 ips
    * Dedicated servers can have up to 256 ips

On OVH, unlike other services, you pay per ip only once. It costs around $3 per ip. If you think on long term, it will cost you less than buying from sellers here on bhw.

Let's imagine a server costs $50/month and each ip is $3.

$50*12 = $600 per year for the server
    $3 * 256 = $768 for ips

$600 + $768 = $1368 total cost of everything in the first year

    $1368 / 256 = $5.34 per proxy per YEAR

    $5.34 / 12 = ~$0.45 per proxy per month

Only disadvantages are that you can't change ips and you need to setup the proxy server and ips.

Thanks for the answer with the detailed cost breakdown.
But how do these providers deal with violation notices from their VPS. Once I was experimenting with proxy on DigitalOcean VPS and I forgot to delete the droplet. It was discovered by proxy scanners and the droplet was misused by someone for a playstation bot. I got a notice from DO on behalf of Sony Corporation the next day.
So how do the proxy providers deal with cases where their client may use the server for such violations.

Proxy servers can limit access to a certain ips or require authentication. Most sellers here have their proxies limited by ip access so only you can access them.
