How Do Posts Get In Magazine Themes Front Page

ive never had this type of theme before and havent made a post on this one yet. i was adjusting the theme on a test site and made a post

theres <h3>s in the home template that have the category name, i have the category in the post correct. how does the post get on the main page. isnt it supposed to just be there as usual in its category

You can choose in which category the post will go, if you have already set some categories of course. If not it will go directly on the main page, Uncategorized.
 
Is there a setting to assign specific categories to those 2 category sections at the top? Like in Appearance->Customize somewhere. Possibly that has to be set up first. I haven't used this particular theme before, but sometimes these templates have a separate settings screen too. Did the theme come with documentation?
 
no but i made some posts the actual blog and it works, the test site doesnt matter. i still would like to know why if anyone reads this
