How do people get so many followers on twitter?

I started an ecommerce site and there are accounts in my industry with similar business models that have 3k-50k followers and have only been around for a month or two. I bought two retweets on a 330k account on a similar page and only got 25 followers but had like 100 retweets between the two tweets, how come all of these other accounts have thousands when I can only get 25. I mean obviously they have bought way more retweets than me but I mean come on they have got to be spending thousands and ten of thousands of dollars. Is that what they are doing? It seems like their should be an easier way!

You must be new to this. In order to get more followers you have to :
1. follow lots of people
2. buy followers
3. have links from other sites to your twitter acc
4. be verified
also I dont suggest buying retweets unless your trying to advertise a product.
The reason you only have 25 is you are following the wrong people, or you aren't following at all.
 
People get a lot of followers mostly by gaining their attention of course!

How to gain attention?
Follow a lot of people, mostly for your niche to gain followbacks! If you will need a tool to automatize that including the whole messaging process etc. check out TweetUpBot.com ! :)

Yeah, but it can be easily verified by the glimse of an eye - if you see no activity on the page itself - it is fake obviously :D
 
You can get many real followers using specialized software, like the one in my signature.
 
Many people are getting thousands of followers using http://twittermoneybot.com/.
 
Rezin99, if you will using Twidium Inviter you can get real followers - "live" people for communication, but you can`t do it fast. Speed = Bots.

I'd like to know this too. Is it just to give the appearance of authority? It seems logical that someone would be more likely to follow an acct with more followers, than less ofcourse
 
A small amount of the followers you see are fake. The rest they're getting by following other people.
 
Many owners of the e-commerce stores you see on twitter probably have built a large following off of their other accounts (by massing or being first into a niche) and that their messages are consistently retweeted to the masses by these channels and networks they have created.

If you want real followers in a short amount of time, you should contact a social influencer, the same way you got RT's, in your niche and ask them what type of promotions they can offer you. Ex. 1,000 followers for $xxx.

Otherwise you can mass follow with a bot found here or manually and gain that way as well.
 
like the others said you can buy followers but the real method is:
1-post everyday stuff that attract people,like events or clothes or technologie stuff
2-follow the people that followed you
3-week after week unfollow like 5 or 6
4-if everything worked correctly you will have a good amount of followers
