how do I surf with a different IP?

Hey there!

I have a different IP that I've rented because I want to surf the web without telling everyone and their mom who I am, where I'm from, what my shoe size is, whatever...

Is there an easy way to do this?

Just change the proxy settings in Firefox...is it a proxy service you rented or what?

Switch Proxy was very easy to use with Firefox but it no longer functions with firefox 3.6. A pity.
I have tried manually configuring proxy on firefox, but it never works (for me at least). Any suggestions on how to configure the proxy manually on firefox.

My current version of firefox doesn't include an "options" selection under the Tools dropdown.

Any ideas?

You can just Google free proxy service and find a whole list of free services. The pro to this is it will let you mask the info you want to. The con to this is that your bigger sites will not let you log into accounts thro one of these services so it really comes down to what sites your trying to hide info from.

@matt123: I'm actually looking to serf the bigger sites that won't allow such services.

get the latest version of FF...there has to be an "Option" tab.
(next to bookmark)
Adding a different IP is easy with FF .

@raidel21: yup, you're right...it was somewhere. I went to firefox help and typed advanced settings and it told me to go to my Firefox-->Preferences-->Advanced tab--->Network--->connection settings. Once inside of the connection settings it's giving me a radial option button for: no proxy (default), auto detect proxy, use system proxy, manual proxy (with options beneath for http proxy, ssl proxy, ftp proxy, gopher-proxy, and SOCKS host, or Nox Prooxy For: ...and finally there's a radial button for automatic proxy configuration URL.

Do you know which one I would put my rented proxy into?

well, i can tell you what i do sometimes for the really shaddy shit... i get my laptop, my flash drive with my beloved backtrack, i roam around a little bit i get into one place full of wi-fi networks protected using WEP and in 30 minutes i get the passes for like 6 of them.

then i just surf around and do my shit lol
