Hey fellas!

is there any way to prevent youtube from autoplaying videos?? I mean, while I am still logged in, because otherwise it probably won't autoplay if I'm logged out, but I need to stay logged in, so...

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I'm using the Brave browser. Many, many, many years ago when I used Firefox I had an addon installed which helped me with this, but apparently there's no such addon for Brave, hence my cry for help...

anybody?

Come on, guys! One of you has to know some tricks to solving this...

use user agent switcher , and change your useragent to firefox from current browser.

what's that?? A Brave add-on, or something else? I'm going to look it up in Brave's extensions repositories, so if it's there no need to answer me :)

But if it's something else, kindly let me know
I think firefox auto block this shit, but can't sure...
yeah, Firefox did this indeed, I used it several years ago with great success but not using Firefox anymore, so...

ok, found the thing (in chrome's extensions database), installed it, chose the Firefox user agent, and.... nothing! Youtube still autoplays. And yes, I did read the FAQs of this addon but it doesn't troubleshoot you if it doesn't outright work.

Can I please get some tips on how to make it work?

this is what I'm seeing:

And this is what I see when I click on the "edit" icon (because this addon's FAQ page told me to click on that icon, which I did, but then didn't tell me what else I should do after I click on it... not that I can do anything else anyway because it only has OK and CANCEL as options):

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:98.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/98.0

maybe try this. change it with them.

Summary:

  • Once upon a time, Chrome (and Chromium-based browsers, hence Brave) allowed users to edit a flag that controlled autoplay policy.
  • Mid/late summer 2019, Chrome / Chromium (and hence, Brave) deprecated this flag. The explanation from Google: enabling advertisers to “engage” browser users. The result: users no longer control autoplay.
  • In September 2019, I installed the AutoplayStopper extension:
It works for me and, judging from comments, for many others.
  • Subsequently, Brave has intimated they’ve addressed this with a switch: brave://settings/content/autoplay
  • My experience (this is ‘anecdote’, not ‘data’): Brave’s switch reduces / slows Autoplay instances, but doesn’t eliminate them; AutoplayStopper works.
  • Installing any / all extensions entails risk. I minimize my reliance on extensions, but I continue to use AutoplayStopper.

Still doesn't work, but thanks for the explanations. Why am I not surprised that Google is behind all of this... yet again?

Oh well, I guess I'll continue suffering....

Try adding a url blocker extension and block googlevideo.com. disable the extension when you want to play the youtube videos.

I mean if you like to do something else on youtube and dont want videos to load in player that what it will do when blocking that domain.

Otherwise just use firefox.

i think there is an extension that you might be able to use.

I use inviduous, it doesn't autoplay anything.
Inviduous + QuiteRSS to make a custom feed for myself.

HA! Just found the solution :D

For anyone using the Brave browser and unable to stop Youtube autoplay type this into your browser:

Code:
brave://settings/content/autoplay

and slide the button to the left of the bar, to disable it for ALL sites, not just YT (which for me is fine).... I just tested this and it does work...

Oh, important note: if you're disabling this setting don't use the "user agent switcher" addon that is mentioned in this thread as it won't work while that addon is active

They removed that option wtf
why are you surprised, mate? Big, powerful corporations like google control all technology and force - one way or another - all independent / small developers to dance how they sing. All browsers on the market today (at least the ones that I've used, such as chrome, firefox and brave) are turning into copies of each other, with all of them doing what's best for google to make more money. Yet another reason for which I hate this mobster corporation and pray every day that my retarded Europeans do away with this company like they've started doing with Apple by forcing them to include a USB-C port on their products for the European market, or begone from our continent. We need to stand up more to these american companies that asphyxiate everyone with their monopoly...

So yeah, I'm not surprised that they sneakingly removed that option
