How Do I Outrank an Older Article from the Same Site

I have an article on a major article directory and I can't seem to outrank one with the same title. It has me attached to it in Google right below. Not sure what that's called but you know when they show a couple of relevant links from the same site right below the search results.

I've been building and building links to this article and whenever I go up so does that article. It has like 4 links to it but it's about 2 years older than mine.

I just can't seem to get unlinked from it and rank higher than it.

Any suggestions?

Will continued link building get me past this damn article?

Hmm...which backlink checker are you using? It might have a lot more than 4 backlinks to it. Just to be sure, check the backlinks for the articles or properties that are the backlinks for this article.

It might have a lot of deep linking. Additionally, it sounds like the article you want to beat has already gotten a lot of views and is sitting on the most viewed section at the article directory. That could be a pretty difficult backlink to beat but I don't think it will be impossible especially if you are already right under it.

Yeah it having a lot of views and age can make it hard to beat itself.

My suggestion, continue link building but also buy a bunch of visitors to your article, try to get more views then the original one. Thats how the big dog article writers do it, buy shit tons of views to get into most viewed section.

Thanks for the tips. I use site explorer to check backlinks. It's just frustrating as hell to be beat out by a crappy article with less backlinks.
