How do I make more money as a non-native content writer?

Hi all,

First of all, with all modesty, I can write excellent content. I'm currently working on Upwork, and one of my clients has a native English editor who reviews all the articles. She makes little to no adjustments in my work.
I haven't had anyone reject me on the basis of content (yet).

Now, I'm currently making about $700 monthly, but the thing is that most employers (on Upwork and job boards) have a "native English speaker only" barrier that just closes all doors for me. Even though I can provide quality, I can't even apply for the job.

How do I get people to consider me in such situations? What do you suggest I should do?
  • Keep looking for jobs and apply for them even if they are native speakers only?
  • Start cold emailing websites?
  • Something else

Just say that you can write at a native level and provide samples.

So yes keep applying for jobs.

You should target a specific industry OP, one that is typically flush with cash, and then you should mass outreach to a huge list of companies within that industry. You'll get some hits from it, all you have to do is secure one of them. They'll pay better than on Upwork, they won't be so nittpicky, and they'll give you regular work for longer.

Also take fc-dh's advice and stick around BHW and then get yourself Jnr.VIP after 2 months. Then you can advertise your services here and might get quite a bit of business.

You should be careful doing anything without Jnr.VIP though, because you may or may not get bounced pretty quickly.

The fact that you're on Upwork and getting business says a lot. Plus I can tell by your post that you write well. If you're not doing it, I'd ask for good feedback from your customers that you are a good writer even though you're not native English speaking. I know that it's tough that people do filter out non English natives on Upwork. However I think that the earlier post suggesting getting Jr. VIP status here is right on. You'll get a lot of business here and not depend on Upwork so much. Good luck.

Dude, what language do you speak? If you speak italian / spanish / german or anything like that you are gonna get rich by creating a niche website in your native language (much easier to rank when compared to US market)

Yup. That sounds like a good plan. Thanks!

Yeah, I'll definitely consider buying Jr VIP. Thanks!

I'm from India. So, Hindi is my native language.

I see, well maybe niche website in Hindi isn't the best idea but im not entirely sure as Im not particularly familiar with this language :p
I've already started working on a niche website. It's in English. https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/journey-to-building-a-website-following-income-school.1209346/
