Ok, so I'm slowly growing tired of doing method after method, and continuing to see fail after fail. So now I'm ready to go into something that I will have fun doing whether I fail or not. Creating Video Games! I'm very passionate about video games, and I enjoy playing them. I've always wondered how to make them because I feel like I have very unique ideas for a game and I'd love to see my creations be played and loved by others.

So my question is: Is there anybody out there that would be willing to help a kid out?

I've got college coming up in about a year, and I'm stressing because I have no money. I've purchased some in-depth, high quality tutorials on learning Unity. I also plan on purchasing a sculpting software (if that's the correct term) to create character models, etc. I will eventually be learning Maya to create animations as well.

So is there anybody that could give me some tips, or pointers? I'd very much appreciate it. Thank you! :)

Game development is tough. You would need both programming and artistic knowledge to get started with it. I know some people here who are into flash games, but real games like NFS etc would need a lot of study. I suggest you joining a course for this if possible.

You most likely can't do this on your own.
You need more people for your project. At least 1 person for every different task.
And even once the game is created the cashflow simply depends on the popularity if your game if you even find a publisher.
It would be more realistic to create little flashgames that might get viral. Or mobile games. But even then, i suggest you do simple stuff like flappy bird or doodle jump if money is what matters.

1 basic animation in maya needs hours of re-touching. Even if you decide to go after gameplay and not graphics you still need physics scripting + AI + sound + testing and then make money from it. Much better - create tutorials for beginners and sell them on clickbank - you will make some income from it.

Regards,

Artistic knowledge shouldn't be too difficult. I've been creating music for about 5 years so creativity shouldn't be a problem. Programming part would be however. And I don't plan on making any intense games like NFS, GTA, etc. Just something little to begin with and once I have the money work on building a team and possibly making a game more intense such as ones released by Blizzard, EA, Activision, etc. However joining a course sounds like a great idea.

Money isn't my primary focus. I mainly want to get into video games because I have a passion for it, and from what I can tell so far from making a simple shooter in Unity. It's crazy fun to me! I've been making music for about 5 years and haven't made a penny. But I continue to do it because it's fun. If I could make some money from video games that would be super. Also, would you have and sites in particular that you think I should check out for making flash games?

Hmmm perhaps. That doesn't sound too bad of an idea! Or maybe make some basic scripts, or projects in Unity to sell on Fiverr.

I just started create a flash site games about one week ago, now getting more than 4k u/v per day. Will be posting soon on how to get traffic.

If your reAlly passionate about game dev i suggest do a 2D or a 2.5D first as it is easy to make the resource. The previous replies are correct making a 3D game needs a lot of time and manpower. I know this coz ive self studied xcode 4 years ago and manage to upload just basic 2d arcade app on appstore.

From my experience its hard to maintain your creativity when your also doing other task like coding, preparing assets, marketing, managing ads, managing bank accounts, etc. As time goes by the creativity will diminished coz of all the multitasking and the only thing you would want to do is to release the app.

Do basic stuff first and start from there. If you think your heart is really in game dev then get a team.

Good luck.
