How Do I Know How Many Backlinks to Build?

Hey guys,

I remember learning about SEO a while back and hearing...

"Simply understand the basics of SEO, and find out what your top #1 competitor is doing, and do that, but better"

Is there any tool that would help me do this?

As in, show me how many backlinks I need or something like that.

I pretty much want to know so that I have a goal in mind, and from there I'd devise my exact strategy.

Keep building links until you are where you want to be on the search engines, then build some more.

There is no 'set' number of links to build, just keep going.
 
You can never have enough backlinks

Just keep buiilding the site and the links :cool:

To add to that, many clients hire me to build links and/or general offsite SEO and ask if AFTER they are where they want to be can they stop. And while I do understand budget constraints, I always tell them no. They can scale back and keep me on call, but once a site reaches a certain critical mass, the links (naturally speaking) wouldn't stop coming in, they'd probably increase. Thus your back links should continue to grow, at least if you want to remain "King of the Mountain"

Here's a question I'll just throw out there...

Let's say a keyword has under 10,000 results for an exact phrase match, would you be able to estimate how many back links I'd need?

Or how about this, I'll just tell you my main question: if I were to outsource the work to get a long-tailed keyword like that to first page, how much would that cost?

Don't worry about answering exactly how much, I'm just interested to know a ROUGH estimate to see if a job like that is within my budget...

Yes there is my friend.

I use it everyday and it really really really helps me.

iBusiness Promoter 10, i think i have a rapidshare link somewhere but please try and find a version yourself first!

But.... f*cking brilliant tool!
 
stay away from IBP, digusting tool. I personally hate it. You'd be much better off with SEO Spyglass fro checking competitors out.

As for your question on getting a ROUGH estimate of cost for a keyword with 10,000 results.

You can't put a price on it. You either hirer someone to do it for you, and they will charge whatever they want for it (varies massively from company to compnay) or you know exactly what you want, e.g: I want links from these places. In which case you can usually find someone on DP who will do it extra cheap.

For your niche I'm not certain because I don't know it. But it sounds like a targeted autopligg blast would probably get you first page listings. You can normally pick someone up on DP or on here that would do it for like $25.

You can use yahoo explorer to find out how many backlinks a site has.
 
Market Samurai will give you backlink info for Google's first page.
 
smaller scale backlink from high PR sites is better than large scale backlink from low PR site and spam sites ( link farm ).

Get the site which ranks number one for your keyword.

Put the site into:

It will give you all of the info you need, then just make your backlinks etc greater than his (having said that high quality relevant links are worth more than loads of spammy ones).

Its quite simple really SEO, there are tips and tricks to it, but they just mean you have less work to do. But if you just spending a lot of time building links you will rank.
 
To check backlink competition, I use backlinkwatch.com, it lists all the backlinks for a given site. Enter the URL of your competitor, and you will see their link profile. It even shows you the anchor text they used and whether their link is NoFollow. The number 1 spot may have a lot of links - for example, in my niche the number 1 site has 106,000 links.

Have a look at the link profile - where are the links coming from? If it's article directories and in-content links from other sites, you've most likely got a white-hatter and copying him will be bloody hard work.

However, if it's mainly blogs and forums, it's a different story. Backlinkwatch a site which has been using blackhat link dumping, and you will have a huge list of sites on which you will be able to leave your link quickly and easily. It's the only way to build backlinks. Good luck
 
there so many backlinks out there , you can use the yahoo backlink checker or for more advance purposes you can use SEO elite

Autopligg: a piece of software that automatically posts your link on hundreds mb a thousand pligg websites. I have used it and have seen good rankings using it.

DP: digitalpoint forums. A webmaster forum that generally sucks, however the buy sell trade section has a lot to offer, including people who will build backlinks using autopligg for you. The prices are generally quite cheap because of all the competition.
