Semrush is a good tool.

When I am totally lost I ask a question in the search of 'answer the public' website and that always spawns some really good ideas. (download in csv and keep for 'later' if overwhelmed - you will be)
Once I have my list then fire up any kw tool and get search volume if necessary

Not strategic, but i get new ideas from twitter and what is trending and somehow try to build my content around that topic, gets me a few good unique clicks. (This a very personal suggestion.)

Technically speaking you can try using ahref keyword tool, they have good suggestions and will also show you difficulty and volume.

you wanna know which keywords that are high in search volume? Use ahref not accurate but you'll have an idea look at forum sites and look which questions are being asked?

  • Run a content gap analysis to potentially find untapped topic opportunities
    • I often filter the keyword position from 4 to 10 and 11 to 20
  • Browse relevant online communities where you know your target audience hangs out (Quora, Reddit, forums, FB groups, etc)
    • Take notes of the topics being discussed (this is golden!)
  • Run a search on YouTube and check the latest/trending videos on your niche
    • I often find value in going through the comments on the videos

Take boring topics and write about them from a different angle, add exciting titles and surprise the readers, sprinkle some low comp keywords to bring traffic.

You should read posts on forms related to your niche. It will help a lot.

What I am assuming is that you are not an SEO or you are not doing it at least for this project. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I have a simple solution for you to get an idea of topics. (This morning I have suggested this solution to one more BHW user in another thread.)

Open your competitors website and go to their sitemap. Find the list of articles in their website.

Open ubersuggest or any other tool you might be using to analyze competitors traffic. Find the top performing pages.
Grab the post from the sitemap and write the same article in your own language. Use the keywords in it or discover your own related to that niche.

You will come up with a most sought after article that will perform for you.

I prefer to use a great and free tool, Google Trends. Just type your niches or keywords and see if they're trending or starting to die. Simple! Hope this helps :)

Few more tricks as first know the latest trends in twitter/ Google trends
Follow your competitor strategy
Then use semrush to analyze keyword which is low competition high search volume
Make a attractive high quality relevant content

If you want to stretch a bit from just SEO articles and step into news and share-worthy pieces, google trend would be my go-to suggestion. Hovering across different sections of it gives contents that are up in the trend on a daily basis. For example, the tredning searches section is literally topics that google has top stories for. If you can rank on top stories for even a few hours, that's thousands of traffic for you.

I also think your target audience is the most important factor you need to consider. What topics are they interested in at the moment? Is there anything that’s currently trending in that community that you can use to your advantage? If you’re unsure how to check this, there are several options you can try. For example, you can keep track of your audience’s interests on different social media platforms or sites, including Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, etc. Alternatively, it’s also a good idea to take a look at what your competitors are doing and how their content is performing with your shared audience.

And as for checking trending topics, you can always lean on Google Trends. It’s free, and it allows you to check the popularity of keywords, niches, or topics within a selected geographical region. Since you’re not that interested in SEO, I don’t think you will need more advanced tools.

you can use google trend and give the high quality content. Focus on your target audience.
