First of all tell us what website you want followers? Twitter?

Try giving away 20 quotes a day in your subject. (no links just freebies)

This is the method that works for me:
1.find some twitter community and follow them, they will follow you back
2.Search your fave topic in twitter
3.add reply on the people posts, make a connection
4.follow them

If you think following people will get you followers in return well YES you are right! but its spam most of the time. Its better if you interact with other users, help them out, give out to the community.. you will get pretty good targeted followers!

Never once tried to sell any products via twitter just a feed of latest stories, again im following thousands but little return in-terms of followers.
