How exactly is adding code to a webpage going to help the bot FIND you in the 1st place? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding where this code goes and why...

If you feel like paying for some traffic, and you have some decent content, use StumbleUpon. They have an advertiser program where you pay .10 per visit. (If those people like it and give you a thumbs up, then you get a link from their profile, AND any of the people that see it as a result of them is free.)

I use the wordpress plugin like google sitemap generator

I hosted myself, and get indexed by yahoo, google and msn in less than 24 hour. I think this awesome 2 plugin is enough.

Here's my ping list but I'm not sure how many are still active. I update this once every 6 months or so.
Of course...last update was over 6 months ago so maybe I need to update again.
Depending on your version of Wordpress, you can put these in the "Update Services" box under the "Writing" link of the "Settings" tab. Just copy/paste in the block. One line for each.
I get indexed in about 15 minutes. I can prove it if anybody wants to challenge me.
You can search around for a better ping list. Most big bloggers post theirs from time to time.

These are meta tags and would be placed above the </head> tags, however I have never heard about this and do not know if it would work.

I submit my content and url of my blog to digg and stumble upon. My blog normally index within 24 hours
i have been submitting all my blogs from squidoo to digg, then pinging at a ping site as well as at google and yahoo. should i also submit my blogs through a website submission service as well? i have not seen any of my squidoo lens get indexed in google yet and its been about 4 days now?? am i doing something wrong? when i submit to digg, i see my digg come up within a couple hours but even when i search on google for my exact lens address at squidoo it doesnt come up in the system? can anyone help me out with what i am doing wrong?
alright, i confess, i havent a clue where you put this. do you plug it in the header.php, the index.php, the footer.php or the style.css? somewhere else?

what/how does this effect the indexing process to make it faster?

I submit my blogs to BlogCatalogdotcom with my rss feed and I see results within 24 hours. Ping the blogcatalog page you created in pingomatic. Sometimes the BlogCatalog site outranks my main site. This is for a mainstream site.

here are the steps i take and i get my blogs indexed in google within 3-5hrs. go to 3stepsads, writers-block-unblocked, and unique-article-database and write 3 quick articles pointing at your blog. after that, take your 3 articles and your blog url and ping them. once you do that, the last step is to take your rss feed from your blog and submit it on feedage and feedest. you should be able to search your blog on google within a minimum of 3 hrs. sometimes it takes longer but that is the fastest way i have found to get your blogs indexed quickly.
This is my experience, just to add to statistics:
1.) fastest way is to go directly to Google, Yahoo and Bing and submit directly. Blog gets indexed within 24h. Here are the links:
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping (doesn't ask for gg account)
(indexd check: site:http://www.yourdomain.com)
http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit (asks for yahoo account)
http://www.bing.com/docs/submit.aspx (doesn't ask for msn account)
(indexd check: do search on domain name)
2.) submit the site to: digg. That gets you there as well.
3.) blog pinging services are a sad case. 3 or 4 days later and I didn't get any indexing, anywhere.
4.) need to try this, sounds good: go to Blogger.com and make a disposable blog filled with all the links you want. Blogger.com gets scanned every few hours, so you'll get indexed, but G will remove that blog. But all you care is indexing, and that was done.
