How do I fix 4xx errors in Wordpress?

A client of mine had me do professional onpage seo for their site, and I've pretty much did everything you can think of (Fixed 301's, canonical, speed up site and optimize images, metatags, etc just to name a few)

BUT, he has 16 urls with 4XX errors (basically dead links). I made a list of all the urls from his site, and I'm trying to figure out how to fix them?

He is using wordpress with godaddy hosting.

Same thing happened with me. BAsically you can't do anything :( I contacted them and they first wanted to sell me their SEO service. Then i had been able to convince them that they are having a bullshit thing called "redirect filter" applied on their server. They could not however give me an exact time when my filters will be cleared.
It's happening with many bloggers hosting blogs with GD.

My advice, DON'T go for GD if you are hosting a blog (alas i bought a 1 year plan :'( )
 
I know, so basically I'm screwed? I would in a heartbeat change hosting, but this is for a client and he is already ranking with keywords, has a large database with client information, etc, so I cant change hosting.

Anyway around it?
 
Only way to properly counter this is to charge back. I am just going with the tag. Let's see for a month and then decide. Ultimately it's one of the best hosts otherwise.
 
? What do you mean? And one of the best of host??? Lol, GD is a nightmare, I don't recommend it for a money site at all!
 
404 errors are things you can chase forever, and you still have to account for the use case of it occurring naturally (ie: user typing in a ridiculous url).

Use it to your advantage, a good 404 page can help with internal site structure.

PS. In regards to the 16 links, why can't you just 301 them to working links? What's the issue there?
 
From My point of view you have two solution, where this number one is the best.
Create an 301 redirect from the 404 page to another page
or Create and good custom 404 page with search opportunity.

On my blog I am testing out this 404 redirect since I remove about 10000 pages and it seems to work ok, but in the long therm thats not a good solution if all your pages is indexed by google.

Dude i am talking in terms of speed and availability. No way do I mean to say anything on the SERP coz their server sucks in that :P

Infact, I have used many of the hosts for my clients . I found out that the best performing two hosts were GD and hostGator. They have good speed as well as security. I am kinda really sad that GD did this to me :(

Update: My errors are fixed by Godaddy. :)
