How do I change Instagram's "Account Based In"

Basically, I bought an aged Instagram account that had it's location based in Vietnam. I am using a US proxy, how would I change it to US instead of Vietnam?

you can’t directly “change location” on an Instagram account, and trying to mask it aggressively can get the account flagged by Meta Platforms.
 
A sudden change in login location, such as from Vietnam to the US, can sometimes trigger security checks. It’s usually better to log in on a new device gradually and avoid making too many immediate changes, like updating your password or email, right away.
 
adding mobile number wont help you.
do not use vpn.
buy static ip from location you want. must be residential. use it from that ip minimum 1 month.

had one created in the uk and when i logged in it changed to my location.
 
As far as I know, to change your account location from Vietnam to the US, you can't manually adjust it in the settings. The only way is to trick the algorithm with consistency as follows maintain a US proxy plugged in 24/7 on a clean device, like, view Reels and search for English content in the US, along with posting with geotags from US cities. After 2 to 4 weeks Instagram will automatically update the advertising region and suggest the US
 
From what I’ve seen, it’s usually determined by long-term account behavior and overall activity, not just a single factor like IP.
 
IG location isn’t a toggle, it’s long-term signals. If you actually need US, run a clean US proxy 24/7 on a legit device, keep English/US activity, use geotags, and be patient for a couple weeks. consistency over clever tricks, and don’t expect a quick flip.
 
Trying to change an account’s country using proxies is risky and can get flagged by Instagram. Instead, build consistent signals over time by using a stable US IP, updating your profile details, posting content for a US audience, and engaging with US-based users. There’s no instant switch-location is gradually inferred from your activity.
 
Changing the IP will raise red flags, sometimes it's not advised.
 
Changing your IP address can easily lead to your account being locked.
 
It usually takes 2–4 weeks of consistent US based activity for Instagram's internal Primary Location metric to update.
 
Changing account location like that can be tricky and risky, so it’s better to gradually warm it up with consistent US-based activity.
