How do i avoid the Google Penalty?

I hear from friends that the traffic of their website suddenly drops down. That means their target audiences can't find their website.

This usually happens when Google penalizes a website. I want to protect my website. How can I avoid the google penalty?

You can save your website from the Google penalties by building the niche related links. You have to perform the on-page and off-page SEO techniques following the algorithm, in short, you have to do white-hat SEO for saving your blog or website from getting penalized.

Just don't use any automated software to generate backlinks, as those will most likely be flagged at some point of time.
If you purchased links from a link seller, if they are low quality ones, these are large foot prints that can be easily identified and getting flagged by the search engine - so becareful on which seller you choose.
And if you are afraid of a manual penalty, make sure you put your photo on every pages of your website, under "Author" or "Webmaster" your name, contact info, so that if an employee visits your site, and see that it's maintained by a real person, you will not get a manual penalty in the process.

If traffic drops gradually, it means that they have stopped some work. They could stop making content or build backlinks. Google isn't necessarily to blame.

Be REALLY careful with backlinks, they can ruin everything.
