How do I add files to a mysql database?

I know this is probably a dumb question, but how do you add files to a database? I've already set a database up, but I don't see any way of adding files to it. In my host area it just says stuff about adding users.

Do I just put the mysql code in my website's files? If so, where do I put it and what do I save it as? Or do I have to enter something on mysql command line client? I'm really lost on this subject.

I'm doing a mysql dump if that matters any.

What do you mean by 'add files to the database' ? Are you trying to add tables, run a sql script or actually store a file in the database?

Why are you trying to use mysql? It sounds like you have the wrong idea about what it is for. Mysql is used to store data fields and to facilitate fast and efficient access of such data.

An example would be this forum. All of the user profiles, forum settings, and even this post itself is saved to an SQL database which the forum script then uses to draw its settings and content/posts from.

MySQL is not something that you use to store random info for yourself.. If you need to create a spreadsheet, use a spread sheet program like microsoft excel or even better and free: http://www.openoffice.org.

I'm going by this guide: http://blinding-light.com/tutorials/read/1. I don't know where to put the mysql dump part. It is adding tables.
