Hi,
Me and my friend are thinking of building a file sharing website like fileserve, filesonic where uploaders will be paid for. But we are not sure how do these file sharing hosts make money apart from selling premium accounts as i don't see any ads running on their website.

Anyone can help me in this regard, about the ways we can monetize the website.

Thank a lot :)

When people buy premium accounts they earn money and they are earning money even my selling ads on their sites

I already had a site built for this at one point. Have a ton of ideas if you want to JV. PM me.

Content locker when users want to download, ads on site, premium accounts.

A lot of them have tons of popups but we never notice them due to adblocker programs.

they make the downloaders -

1. Pay for premium accounts
2. See Ads
3. Fill Surveys
4. Get their emails and spam
5. Unlock Content by doing anything they want

And i dont like using adblockers... cmon let the webmaster earn afterall we also are webmasters... i just block survey offers :D
I use an adblocker for when I do 'research' or 'work', but i disable it when I just browse for fun. I also use it when I'm in a hurry as some ads can be annoying (commercials before youtube vids, fucking hate those)

Most sell premium accounts, some sell ad space and overload downloaders with ads, usually also promoting their premium service in the mix aswell.

Thanks for the replies :)

Popups are annoying , i agree :)
Also surveys to download are irritating, users just leave the website without thinking twice.

Im more into ads similar to google ads but then pay won't be good i suppose.

I have tried this and failed. Problem was i only used google ads, google suspended my account. I tried using other ads, but won't make much money. Since i play users, i grow fast, some 900 alexa rank, paid uploaders some $2000+, monthly expanse for servers was $5000, google used to pay $8000 per month, so was going good until adsense get suspended. I see many sites using google adsense, but they don't pay users, so growth may be slow and is ok for google.

A lot of them get SHITLOAD of pageviews so they usually run a CPM campaign

I really don't know, but I would suspect the best way is having reasonable limits and promoting your premium service very well. CPM ads can't hurt either.

I would never do the content blocker or signup thing. Turns off visitors and no sites or forums would allow users to post shit hosted on your site. You don't see any of the high traffic warez sites allowing sharecash links.

With Google, I just don't think they'd like this traffic. Aside from the fact that this is a gray area of the law, there's no content for them to properly target ads. Not worth risking your account over.

I know my reply is a bit late but you got it wrong to begin, these sites make money by selling premium accounts. That's where the meat is.

Can someone please tell me how much money these sites make every month and how much is the monthly expense?
