how do real advanced SEOs create content or do a keyword research?
do they really use google keyword tool and other semi professional SEO tools or do they use other sources?

They mostly used paid tools.

SEMRUSH
AHREF
ALEXA
KEYWORDSPY etc.

And YES, KEYWORD PLANNER!

yes, mostly if you want extensive keyword research, then go for paid tools like SEMRush, Moz, Majestic and Ahref.

First use the tools and then do a manual check of the overall backlink profile and check the content on top 10 can you beat them? can you beat their backlinks and social signals?

if yes then go ahead with the keywords!
