How difficult is it to find a PHP coder?

I am looking for a PHP coder but most the coders have totally unrealistic expectations and also want to have prepayment.

How are you guys dealing with that? Do you really do prepayment even if the project can be done on the coders server?

I just cannot trust some coder guy on the internet with prepayment and then have to beg for updates.

prepayment is needed for many coders!
I only looking for coders from forums, who has high reputation.
Here in China, it's easy to find many coders to do the great jobs !
 
I managed to find good coder on Upwork.

You are free to try our marketplace though.

No, that's why I posted here. I Just can't use freelancer.com or upwork and thus I have only access to coders who proably arent coders themselves and reselling from upwork and this creates unrealistic offers.
 
I noticed that it's close to impossible to find a coder with reasonable price on BHW without prepay. Probably as you said they are resellers from the freelancing platforms and BHW is not a buyer's market for coding anyway, or maybe in general.

Every service except worthless seo packages are highly marked up, stuff you would pay $50 elsewhere you pay $150 on BHW. It's a big marketplace for noobs.

You definitely need to put your project on one of these freelancing platforms because they will give you an realistic price for your project and you have the safety of the platform's escrow system.

Tell us what you are trying to build (not the exact idea) and your budget, and how much developers (here) asking you.

This way, we can get a better idea of who has the unrealistic expectations

I have been quoted everything between $150 and $4000. For the same project details!

Don't worry too much about the pricing. It's the prepayment what bothers me.

If i were to start a project (although i don't do freelance anymore), Id ask a partial prepayment.

You forum profile is on newbie status, you don't have a JR.VIP membership.

Halfway while building, you can just (respectively) fuck off and I'd have wasted my time.

Halfway while building, you (or the hired coder) can just (respectively) fuck off and I'd have wasted my time and would have lost money and would have to look for a new coder.

The project is also done on the coder's server and after competition on the coder's server I would agree to pay a partial amount.

But some random internet guy prepaying? A JR VIP doesn't safe me from the fucking time wasters who cares about the $ first and my project second (or third or whenever in 2026).

And? Still lost the project, time and money. At that point it would have been also a very long time with probably millions of excuses while no updates on the project. So the shitlist doesnt save anything. It means nothing.

With $150 you probably won't get anywhere. You need to collect 5-6(or more) quotes and then try to see what similarities they do have and based on that you can quite precise get how much your project will cost. e.g. if the majority say it will cost 4k, then its probably around that.

Best would be to hire CTO level person or even better - to find someone in your friend circle who can do 1) estimation, 2) due diligence of devs for you.

I would guess your account(hypothetically) costs way more than 4k. So technically OP should look for such profiles when hiring from forums haha

Yeah. Majority is around $150-450 from coders I found from Telegram groups and a few outliers (mostly the coders from BHW) come up with $2000 or $4000.

I know already what its worth as the trusted coder I use gave me his quote but he does not have time and the other newly trusted guy I found here on bhw doesnt have time either but also gave me a low triple digit quote.

Platforms like upwork and PPH have customer protection in place, money gets stored in escrow and if something goes bad you can dispute it.

I asked the opinion how other guys are doing it. But all what comes up is bitchy coders who present the same arguments I can use against them. It's like asking the employee if he wants a raise. Obviously. No unbiased opinions so far.
