Just my opinion or an educated guess. It's not Google that you should worry about. When you clone a site, you are practically using (more or less) the same keywords. This means, if all goes according to plan, your website will probably appear on the same results page as the site you cloned. Then, the original site owner, if he/she is alert and competitive, may see through your site as a plagiarism of his/her site and then, may possibly report you for copyright infringement.

I think, as long as there is reasonable doubt, the original source may not challenge you. But then again, who's to say a jealous competitor won't file harassment complaints? They won't get penalized anyway. In all these, I don't think Google will be directly involved until they receive complaints.

Is copyscape a service owned by Google?

If not, youcannot be sure that if an article passes copyscape test than It will pass Google's dupe content test

That's truth but, on my experience, some times 10% different content ranks better than 100% different content. There are SO MANY other factors involved.

    So true...
The difficult part for me is to try to understand those factors. Well some of them are obvious for someone doing seo, backlinking etc but there are other factors I cannot understand...
