How did you crate your webdesign business

I'm wondering how you manged to get your first clients for your webdesign business.

I'm wondering about starting my own business but have little timef or marketing when I work full time and take care of my family when not at work. Hope somebody can give some bright ideas on how to do it. When I have clients it is much better to explain to my familty that I need work on my webdesign business. I'm targeting small companies that need a mobile site. Hope some here have some inspiring stories or ideas for me. Like putting up a contest on facebook or something....

I tryed for 3 months to attract salespeople and share the profit 50% but they didn't sell anything.... So I'm looking for ideas on how to get started

Craigslist is where I got my first few. Post on there what you're offering. Maybe even give a big discount just to get a few people through the door. You can then use them as a portfolio and ask them for referrals. Also look for people who want websites built on there.

I actually sold a few on Ebay a couple years back. I was really looking for clients anywhere and everywhere.

Beyond that, there's always freelance sites but I feel that overseas competition brought the price down substantially; but depending on your skills and selling ability you can always work your way in.

I gave free redesigns to my seo clients and I do that myself.

Build up a portfolio and it will make your life much easier.

Can explain a little more about how you got more clients from giving freebies to your first clients? Did you use word-of-mouth so how? I see this is a good approach but missing out on how to create a business out of it. Just want to have it planned before I do, so I don't give away services and in the end don't get extra clients

Hi I am also looking to create a web design and development business in the future, but to answer your question.

1) Create an online portfolio of your best work
2) Find all the so called "get rich quick" forums or for simplicity sake sites like "Black Hat World"
3) Insert a link to your signature and create a thread offering to make 5 websites for free to gain both views and post count (your gonna get traffic to that thread like mad)
4) When you have finished the 5 free websites and more people are asking for your services just direct them to your link and BOOM you got customers "add your own twist"

I'm practicing my skills and thinking of other strategies and twists at the moment but you get the idea

Considering to create such thread offering 5 free sites, just worried that when those are done I don't get any new paying cusomters. Thinking 5 new paying cusomters each week would be enough for me to quit my day job and focus 100% on this
