This sadly only helps with looking for emojis. Google+ says Emojis are not allowed, despite of people having them.

Based on reading the comments on the video, it appears that you may need to be on a Mac or iPhone to do this. Are you on either? If not, that may be your problem. People who are not on either say they just see boxes where the Alien emojis are, which I can see fine on my Mac.

This was also posted over 3 years ago. Might not be possible now. It also might only support certain emojis.
