how can you spend so much time on the computer?

No, I don't use an ergonomic chair. Actually, I work on my laptop in my bed. This has been by daily routine for a long period, so I don't find it a big deal.

Actually, I am forced to lead such a life due to some wrong decisions made in the past. I am in huge debts and I am gathering money bit by bit to keep in pace with my mortgages and other expenses. Also, I have increased by content writing rates lately, which is helping me save some money. Hopefully, I will be able to lead a debt-free life in the next 6 months or so.

Seriously, I want to know how it feels to be completely debt free. It's been 8 long years since I have been troubled with debts :)
Brother, i wish you will reach a safe and wealthy position soon, you will be in my prayers. Keep up the confident the good days are near.

Read up on general computer-position-ergonomics. After your eyes, you need to consider your neck/back too. Multiple monitors, monitor postion, keyboard & mouse type & position, sitting height/posture - all of these will have a huge impact to you if not soon, in a few years - especially when you are spending so much time at the computer. As others have said, take short breaks. Something else to think about, for your mental health, once you get a little over the 'kick' is to FORCE yourself away from the computer for hours / day(s). I know that sounds whack, but you need to keep your real life.

Been sitting on computer all day for last 11 years. Theres nothing much else to do here on spare time. I don't really understand those who just hang out at the mall and speak shit and so on ... each of their own tho

Oh also. At home you can listen to music you want and visit the fridge when ever you feel so. Also drink much lemonade you want and take a leak every 5 min if you feel so :D

With most of friends they don't play any music at their home and we often just speak some random shit or drink or do some other subtances.

I really relate to this, it might be fun to some to just socialize but I find it a bit of a chore after a while, drinking lemonade :p

I work 9 to 5 in the day and and in my house I work 6 to 2am. Sometimes my eyes looks red. I just watch outside a minute and go back to work again.

For the screen issues I use a program called f.lux (the dot there is intentional). Its a free piece of software (not even a email signup when I downloaded it) that changes the brightness of the screen depending on the time of day.

At sundown the screen goes from a bright white to a softer orange. You can set how deep you want the orange (not very for me) and whether you want a sharp change or soft change (from 20min to 1hr).

I have it on a minimal change, but it definitely helps. Just make sure that if your doing any colour sensitive work you disable it for an hour.

A good comfortable computer chair. I bought this the other day: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/510830/Realspace-PRO-Quantum-60percent-Recycled-Mesh/ it's very comfy!

Wrist support, a good keyboard and mouse (logitech is the best in my opinion).

A whisper quite computer and big monitor adjusted to just the right amount of brightness.

That and frequent breaks and plenty of exercise to keep you fit. I have a home gym I work out in every other day.

I try not to spend too much time on the computer, but when I have to I can be on there for 15+ hours straight for weeks if I'm working on a big project. Otherwise I move to different parts of the house or go somewhere else (for example Starbucks) to work on things.

I love my job. :)

I'm on twelve hours days between my full time job, IM and writing. Key is frequent breaks, looking at distant objects or a pretty lady to reduce eyestrain, good ergonomics and exercising when ever humanly possible. Too much time you say? Occupational hazard and a result I now get migraine auras. Pretty cool light effects I might add!

Coffee. Lots of it. My head does not hurt and eyesight is ok. Been working 9-5 for ages. Make sure you've got proper Hz set for your display, as low value can cause headaches.

I find that it's an addiction, how many of you can go a whole day not looking at any screen of any kind without twitching?

question is more like.. why do we waste so much time staring at nothing after we finish working :D

Been sitting on computer all day for last 11 years.

Epic, guinness book of world records candidate...

I work a full time 9-5 job on a computer all day, then I come home, and work 6-10pm every day on the computer. Yes, my eyes hurt, but I really enjoy it. Feels good man.

yup same here, i'm a java software developer, except i spend 6-12pm every night on the computer after work :D

Well minus the hour here and there for video gaming/friends/dinner

I got used to it, no pain, but i'm pretty sure its not good for my eyes down the road lol

i've been sitting behind the computer as much as possible since i was 5years old. i'm 28 now so that 23 years. if i am away from a computer to long i feel like i'm detoxing. yeah i'm an addict i know ;)

ive been at the computer 8 to 12 hours a day for the past 4 or 5 years.

Eat more carrots... or get more beta-carotene in your diet. It's food for your eyes. Also another good helper for the eyes is Astaxanthin.

I am looking at a screen pretty much any time of the day, and my eyes are perfect with no issues. :)

some people are gonna ignore this but it's very good advice

I use f.lux - find it helps a lot in the evenings :)

Just Google it!

You know I had it running before a recent laptop crash and all I can remember at night was wondering why the hell was my screen tinted red?
That of course was the program changing the tint.

Do think it really work?

I used to be a computer addict also sitting in front of it no less than 8-9 hours a day. But eventually i started to go out with friends and do stuff and now I dont do that anymore. I think it's whether you have something interesting to do on your computer or not.
