How can we trust content writers these days?

You have to work for that, need to read the content, use some content detector tools too, ai majorily use sam pattern and same words which help you writer is using ai content. Hope this help you

My client website recently got hit due the content update.

If I were in your shoes, I'd try to give additional tasks for a copywriter in the article-making context. It fully depends on a niche, though there are universal methods, just like adding statistical/scientific fact - it has to be proven by specific source. Regarding this info, the easiest way is to check the information's authenticity and correlation between the given fact and conclusion from the refered text.
If it doesn't sound human-ish enough, you have your answer. Even before the AI Era, getting info out of context is easy to expose.

Write it yourself. That is the only way to verifiably get 100% human written articles. Before AI, articles would be riddled with errors, incorrect facts, links that aren't great sources, etc... With ai, I get less errors, incorrect facts, but more broken links. I wrote scripts that fix these links so now AI far beats humans. Like, not even close.
AI has only gotten better from my experience and even though I prefer to read human written articles, AI has gotten me more conversions for way cheaper so...
If the content is "unacceptable" then don't accept it... But at the same time, explain specifically why it's unacceptable. A good writer will fix the unacceptable parts. Throwing it in a "AI content detector" is just pure laziness on your part and super hypocritical.

Read it. We can still easily detect a low quality content written by an AI...they are repetitive, excessively cautious and boring.
If it's undetectable, so it means that it's high quality content like a human written one, so, it won't affect negatively your website

I think the focus should be on the quality of the content, not whether it was produced by AI or human.
If the quality is good, it doesn't matter how it was produced.
If the quality is bad, again, it doesn't matter how it was produced.
So when you receive content from someone you hired you need to ask yourself whether the content meets your "standards" of quality or not.

I don’t know the kind of rewriting that could be done, if you pay attention you will realize every AI written article. Hire people that have solid reputation, and don’t seek for cheap labor.

It doesnt matter if its AI gen as long as its properly human edited so it doesnt appear as AI. Its not like content writers dont also repeat patterns like AI does.

Google don't care if the content is AI Generated or human written untill it’s written for the user. Content should fulfill the users intent.

AI is good but the content lacks soul i.e i mean soul is not breath in much unlike how human writing has emotions obvious in them. That's my own contribution
