If you are referring to "business" as an actual running business/company, meaning that you have an actual service or product you sell then I can share a few things. The main purpose I built Sublime Twitter Bot (see my signature) is to increase my business' online presence.
Let's just say you are selling weight loss programs for the sake of this example.
1. You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and say: "I am very rich. "Marry me!" - That's Direct Marketing.
Social network marketing example: You scrape a bunch of users from Twitter who are interested in the terms "weight loss" and what not. You send them a tweet. That's direct marketing.
2. You're at a party with a bunch of friends and see a gorgeous girl. One of your friends goes up to her and pointing at you says: "He's very rich. "Marry him." -That's Advertising. .."
Same concept as above. Instead this time, there are internet marketers and affiliates who are actually promoting your weight loss product for you.
3. You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and get her telephone number. The next day, you call and say: "Hi, I'm very rich. "Marry me - That's Telemarketing. .."
- Now this I can identify with list building. Research the follow and unfollow method for that if you're going to use twitter. This is one of my most favored techniques as you can sell and resell products to the same people as long as those people are targeted.
4. You're at a party and see gorgeous girl. You get up and straighten your tie, you walk up to her and pour her a drink, you open the door (of the car)"Marry Me?" - That's Public Relations... "
- Twitter and facebook are great tools in creating a list of users,
while at the same time you build a trust relationship with your potential clients.Social networking is such a personal tool that you can deliver sub-personal marketing messages and tweets and have it directly in front of your target's computer screen with a big "I Know what this guy is saying and I can relate to it" response. Once your readers/followers/fans are at that point, they're already handing you out their credit card numbers for whatever you are selling. Think of the big names in internet marketing and this is exactly what they are doing.
5. You're at a party and see gorgeous girl. She walks up to you and says:"You are very rich! "Can you marry ! me?" - That's Brand Recognition. .."
If you do this right, you'll get to the point that people will say "I want to lose weight, I'll get [insert your product name here]". Same thing that happened with p90x if you're familiar with it.
6. You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and say: "I am very rich. Marry me!" She gives you a nice hard slap on your face. - "That's Customer Feedback..."
- Well this is pretty much self explanatory
7. You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and say: "I am very rich. Marry me!" And she introduces you to her husband. - "That's demand and supply gap..."
8. You see a gorgeous girl at a party . You go up to her and before you say anything, another person come and tell her: "I'm rich. Will you marry me?" and she goes with him - "That's competition eating into your market share..."
- Now 7 & 8 are somehow related to me. It's like promoting an over saturated email/zip submit/content locked viagra offer. The social market is already saturated with those offers. Now you can still make this work for you if you have the skills. Since you know what the "wife" is into (aka this person is already following the p90x program), you can still add her on in your list for future reference, give it time, and then promote your product again.
9. You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and before you say: "I'm rich, Marry me!" your wife arrives. - "That's restriction for entering new markets..."
- Well, you get the picture
