As the title says... how can it be that this website is not penalized by duplicate content, is copying word for word the descriptions of google play games. For example:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aceviral.angrygranrun

And still has a nice amount of traffic, 22k in Alexa. I don't get it, how he do it?

Funnily enough, I also have a site with duplicate content and want to see how it does. But as far as I know Alexa only tracks traffic. How do you know it is not from advertising rather than organic search traffic?
 
He has authority website and ranks many kwd:

everything boils down to competition, He is not challenged with other authority content website. I think so.
 
It might be because he linked the original source of the description? He links to the Google Play Store.

So basically what he does is to cite Google Play. Now the question is: Does Google think its duplicate content, if he links to the original source? I don't think so, because if they would, the search engine would end up in a huge mess. So many magazines and newspaper are quoting and taking texts from different sources.

I also made the same experience. I was writing about some video games and included some paragraphs from the official game description, also some paragraphs from Wikipedia. Always linked to the original source. Articles ranked fine.

Read Google's own support section regarding duplicate content. Google doesn't penalize for duplicate content, especially if they source the original article and use the rel=canonical tag.

They only penalize a site for duplicate content when it's done in a way specifically to manipulate the search results. Which would only be determined by a manual review.
 
The link to google play has a rel="bookmark" not sure the reason.

Yes, because they rank higher whichever page they determine to be a better version and more relevant. Regardless of when or who published it first. So things like site authority and backlinks become a factor still.

But there is a chance I can grab subscribers using their authority since I copied their content right?

You don't get their authority by copying their content. I just mean that if there are duplicate pages from any two sites, the site with the most authority will most likely rank higher for that page.

I mean say for instance I outrank that site considering I know what I am doing there is a chance that I can reap the benefits when it comes to making the most out of it right? even though its copied content with the reference and canonical thing...

Sure if you outrank and get the traffic, you would benefit from that. But depending on what that content was specifically about, you could even run into copyright issues from the original creators of that content. Many different factors to consider about this.

The whole point is just that duplicated content isn't grounds for a Google penalty and the site with the higher authority will most likely outrank that page of duplicated content.

This considering I do all this?
