In the USA it’s hard to stay fully anonymous, your best bet is using privacy‑focused wallets and coins (like Monero) and non‑KYC peer‑to‑peer trades, while following all applicable laws.any advice appreciated

- Buying Monero
- Swapping it to Bitcoin
- Swapping Bitcoin back into Monero in a new wallet

You can stay fully anonymous by buying through a peer to peer service because if you use any exchange then you can't be anonymous even if you then transfer it to a custodial wallet that no one else has access to. Or maybe buy crypto from non KYC exchanges if there are any and then move them to your custodial wallet

I don't think it will be anonymous if you buy using an exchange. If it's a small amount, you'll fly under the radar, but what if you want to buy a considerable amount of crypto?

Agreed 100%. Avoid all major centralized exchanges as they all require KYC and will rat on you in a heartbeat. Monero is a good option but harder to obtain than BTC I think. If going with BTC you need to use a mixer or tumbler service. I use https://www.cryptomixer.is, it is the first and most trusted bitcoin blender website in use since 2016. They also provide a PGP signed confirmation letter with each transaction and their admin says they do not seize coins that are from 'suspicious' origin as some other mixer sites do. The most risk privacy-wise is first purchasing crypto and then when cashing out to FIAT. If you can mix it or send to multiple accounts it should be pretty much anonymous.
