Check the backlink profile first and see if it looks good. Also check if the price is reasonable. If someone's selling you a PR4 domain for $50, you got to ask why. And same as EddieC123, use escrow to make sure you get what you pay for.

Escrow is the safest process. DN.com, Sedo, GoDaddy, and Escrow.com all offer 100% safe domain sales...You'll have to pay a small commission, but it's worth it for the guaranteed safety!

First, make sure that the domain is owned by this stranger. Ask him for a ownership verification.
Second, if you don't trust him, use Escrow. With a little comission, your money will be safe.
