how can I reduce my hostgator bill?

I have to renew my hosting soon and I just spent the last hour searching for a hg coupon. I finally found one, and I go online to pay my invoice, and there is no coupon box. Chat guy says coupons are only for new accounts.
What kind of bastards are these people? they will lure you in for the first year, then rip you off the following year. I can't pay $120 for hosting guys, that is absolutely outrageous.

does anyone know how I can reduce my bill, apart from changing hosts?

Maybe you should cancel the current account and move the files to new account. That's what the support person suggested me, when I contacted them. Instead doing all those things, I downgraded from business to lower plan with unlimited domain host.
 
I agree, just change the type of account you have, when you do, they will usually give discounts at that time.

I have the baby plan with unlimited domains. the next lower-priced account is hatchling plan, but that's just one domain.

you mean pretend you are a new customer? wouldn't they know you are the same guy because your domain is the same?
 
there is hosting out there with unlimited domains, cpanel, installers, everything for around $20 a year so i dont know why people would go to hostgator in the first place?

are they down all the time? if not, then I would interested in which host(s) you are referring to.
of course, I could go with 000webhost, but they are down half the time. and the other half, your site loads slow as hell.

$120/year? That's not the cheapest, but it's far from being unreasonable... My hosting costs me $3000+/year, want to swap? :D
 
Change hosts. I am with one host and its just $48 per year with unlimited domains and i have used them for a couple of years now and been fine.
 
you should better switch to VPS, this way you will host unlimited domains.
get an unmanaged VPS if you know how to install the server and other main things.
or go for a managed VPS, they will setup everything for you.
 
Try StableHost or HawkHost, they are like $5 or so, which is half of Hostgator.

You should realize there's no coupon for renewal. Coupon is there to pull people in, and they need to do business. It's how marketing works.

I guess it is obvious, but guess not, a lot of people are looking for "domain and hosting renewal coupon".
 
Man what you pay for is what you get. I'm by no means a promoter of hostgator but I went through so many host companies that at least I know that my sites are safe with them. I have two separate plans that cost me 2X$10/mo.

There is no way I can find any coupon for the monthly pay plan. Only if you get a new account for at least 12 months and enter a coupon, but I can't take the downtime to move all my sites, I just stick with them and this price and never been disappointed, like other hosts can do.
 
120 sounds fair to me,hostgator have removed viruses etc from my accounts without me even knowing I only found out in logs,great service.I use reseller accounts not standard ones,worth every penny imho.
 
Been with Hostgator since the beginning.

I have tried cheaper options some in the range of $25 to $40 per year... and you get what you pay for. Sites were down frequently, no support whatsoever, slow loading times, etc.

Now I stick with Hostgator nevermind the expenses.
 
i really get surprised then i see people paying that much for simple hosting

i pay 3 dollars every month! and website is capable of holding 5K UVS per day and 16k impressions, and i am not even close to override my server


this is 2013, there are 10 times more hosting providers than in 2005
 
Hostgator are pretty good. Baby plan you can run 50+ medium sized sites easy enough. Servers are quick support and backup is good. No you wont find hosthator in my sig !! but $120 is peanuts for that package. If you only need hosting for a handful of small sites I suppose you could look around and save $50 with an inferior service but you should be looking to scale up in 2013 not cutback...jmho
 
Are you for real?
They're giving you a massive account the first time you signup + superb hosting, support at a reasonable rate. Then, you come complain that they are "ripping you off" just because you can't read the fineprint? Also, what kind of business are you running if you can't even pay 120$ a year. You might want to consider your perspective and attitude.
 
Do you have a problem changing the host?? because there are many other hosts that are cheap and really good.
