I would like to sell some digital goods on ebay but the problem now is for some of these sales paypal would probably ask for certain information (shipping details, invoice etc) and even if they don't ask right away, I would like to be cautious about this, So I would like to ask, would it be acceptable to send a confirmation letter via post to the buyer? At least that way I can get a tracking number to add on paypal or is there an online service that would provide me with tracking numbers?

You could try doing that, however if the buyer still wanted to do a charge back all they would do is dispute that you sent anything except a letter.
Is it possible to password protect what you're selling, then send the password only via tracked letter? That would be a better option, although a little slower.

Many years ago I used to sell top up vouchers for mobile phones in the UK, all went well until a guy bought from me, then begged to have the code emailed as he was flying off on holiday. Like a kind hearted fool, I did it and thought nothing of it.
Needless to say a week later, got a charge back. I showed the conversation, showed I emailed the code to the same email address as he asked for ( his paypal address ). I lost the appeal as it was not a physical item and the buyer claimed his ebay and paypal had been hacked on that day.
Sadly too many scamming fuckers out there. The letter sent recorded delivery ( if you're in UK ) with the password to access might be the option.
