How can I monetize my skillset

Hi there,

I read the forums a lot, especially other people's journeys and the making money section.

I can program in the following languages: C#, Python, Java, Javascript, and SQL.

What do you guys think I should do (make an automated blog website, youtube bot, etc.)?

This forum is full of good opportunities for people like you, I'd suggest looking at the ideas you've already listed and find something you'd be comfortable pursuing. With that being said, you have a very valuable skillset, and as you start your own business, I'd also recommend signing up to Fiverr/UpWork to supplement your income while you grow your empire.

Not from my experience... Waste of time... Even low/medium ticket clients you 'catch' yourself without these crutches + 1 1-2k client will give you full time income, not so much with fiverr... People are so obsessed with fiverr it's insane, literally everything is better than this. I get shitloads of traffic for my services myself, fiverr will give you barely any traffic if you won't buy fake reviews. Very overrated. Otherwise good post. It's just at this point I'm as triggered by hearing fiverr as I am by hearing words paypal or hostgator.
 
There’s a lot of things you can do. You can:

- rent out your skillset.
- create a LinkedIn bot that messages site owners letting them know their site is outdated & either rebuild their website yourself or sell the leads list to web devs.
- look around the forum & notice the threads people post. How can your skillset solve their problems. Code it, sell it.
- scrape LinkedIn, indeed, and other job networks for Remote Developer positions & apply to them.

I have a few more ideas but that should really get you going into the right direction.

I understand why you feel that way, on my freelancing days, I made a huge effort to make that jump from Fiverr to Upwork, and it was definitely worth it. I think the low barrier of entry is good either way with Fiverr though, the market is saturated as fuck, but if the UpWork algorithm is giving you trouble and you need to built a portfolio, IMO it's a good place to start (not to say many hurdles won't be on the way, it's a rocky road).

I definitely agree with what you're saying, you land a 1-2k a month client for whatever you provide and you might be better off focusing on delivering the best service for them and onboarding more clients. However, while you work on landing that coveted first client (harder than most think, unless you are exceptionally smart), these platforms are a good way of getting a little more money in your pocket.
 
Yeah fuck Fiverr or Upwork, its only 30-50$ per hour. You better play lottery.....

Better build an blog for 6 Months or so without any income (eyesroll).

And that is when you dont buy reviews. Sure, you could buy reviews but you probably wont get to a hourly rate above 50$ on Fiverr. And thats not much.

You can expect only 20$ in rhe first weeks.

Even Hookers earn 100$+ per hour. You should atleast aim for twice.

Jokey beside, only Members here pay more. If you are lucky and porivde superb service you might have a returning customer from bhw who pays the 100$ for less than an hour. I only found one tho and i would let any cistomer wait if he needs code LOL

what kind of results can you expect from building the bot to scrape a list and giving your pitch? i know a full-stack dev and he has a hard time getting clients

The larger the list, the better your chances. The less human interaction needed with the bot, the better the chances. I believe LinkedIn has a message sending limit per day or per week as well.

I don’t personally know your friend, but there could be any number of things wrong with his implementation. I could only speculate.

i hear you. so linkedin bot + good copy = warm leads? he is a very good programmer but not very persistent when it comes to marketing his services

Build a website and create a portfolio, do emails! upwork, odesk and others

Thank you all so much for your input!

After reading everything, I decided not to start on Upwork/Fiverr. Today I made an (almost) fully automated content generator + uploader from scratch. If I have okay results, I will start sharing it in a journey too :)

Warm-ish leads. They can only be so good when you're not using an opt-in list.

If he's a good programmer perhaps show him some good marketing courses/books.

If his salesmanship is good along with that, he'll be very successful, if he isn't already.

hmmm... would i be better off focusing in on building an opt-in list, then simply supplementing it with targeted email lists and linkedin bot messaging? and any other good supplementations, maybe some buying hot leads?
