Hi i own a .net domain and the site has recently started to take off. Unfortunately another guy owns the .com domain, and i really want to control all the domains thats related to my website (.com .net .se etc) I looked up the guy that own the .com domain

He currently owns 3000 domains and is using them to re-sell for a higher price, he is running his business as a sole proprietorship and his office is the same as his home address (Not surprised if you are on this forum!!)

OK so i really want this domain and have thought of 3 plans.

1) The domain COULD expire within the next month, i will keep an eye out and obviously grab it.

2) He is re-selling all of his domains, i could make him an offer.

3) I trademark DOMAIN-NAME and hire a lawyer, try to do something (Only if he is not selling the domain to me)

Do you guys have any other ideas or any input? Thanks

well i guess just write him a message and try to buy it, would be the easiest way i guess

Wait to see if expires if not offer him a sum

Even if it expires, there is a grace period & pending delete period which can be 3 months in total.
I am not sure about time-frame.Google it

1. If he is reseller, he will never forget to renew it unless he don't want it anymore. plus, there is already an automatic renewal option ;) ( If you already sent him an offer about that domain, don't expect to grab it from JustDropped. If you didn't, you don't know what tomorrow brings, give it a time.

2. Make an offer (Don't let him know you own the .net or else the price will go up

3. I don't think so this one would help, unless you wanna see your story over HallOfShame.com

BTW,Expired domains will be on auction, not gonna be for register as a new ones.

How many days is the usual for the expired domains to be registered as new again?

If your website is taking off, then paying money to acquire the .com makes the most sense.

When a website is growing, protecting the brand and all extensions is the most valuable thing. Right now you could be losing a lot of traffic to this .com owner.

Better, buy the .com now when the traffic only increasing.

Wait for expires and do backorder. But if you don't like to take risk , offer him a price.

They will be auctioned here in NameJet.com, + If the DN was worthless, the "Domainer" wouldn't have registered it, and If he leaves it now ..I don't think domain brokers will let it go.

The first option is great but if you can't grab it, you can contact the owner and make an offer.
