How can I get into selling items on amazon?

I've got a seller account and even some stuff that is the lowest price but no one wants to buy from me. I assume it's because I have 0 rep.

How did you go about getting yourself started in this?

I had a hot summer item I put up for sale and got 15 sales in the first two days I guess. There was a $100 profit on each but I forgot about the account. I had my inbox spammed with Amazon complaining about people complaining they never got their items shipped. Stupid because I never accepted any payments and after a few days of no answers you think the buyers would give up.

Pick things that are high in demand and you'll roll in sales.

hennessy you're in the wrong. I'm the LAST person to defend mighty AZ but you're giving crap advice. Amazon has that new charg3 wh3n sh1p thing where they don't credit the seller's acct until you provide ship confirmation. Amazon affiliates can get funds in their acct for items that az ships, but if it's your own prod no, you won't see any payment until you actually send the thing. Pretty much killed the high-end dropshippers on there. You get the order, ship it, then you get paid.
So technically it's not "stupid" since there were no payments for you to "accept". Az got paid by the customers and were waiting for you to send it before they paid you. Good thing it seems. Even if they had put that money in your account you would still have forgotten it and the people STILL wouldn't have their stuff. It's sellers like you that are the reason az had to do that imho. Too may folks setup stores with great prices and wander off, ignore orders and emails and fuck it up for other sellers. Sellers that pay attention, I mean.

raggoman: sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. Try diff products, something offbeat or odd. My first Az store I got several order in the first 24 hours but it was stuff that didn't have a lot of competition. I've always had good luck with things to attract the opposite sex, or help couples do stuff together.

And Check Google Trends for your prod niche, or for something you can get your hands fast or sell through them (as an affiliate). For instance, that balloon boy story was huge in the news the past few days: this would have been a time to promote home made weather balloons and build your own hot air balloon, etc. Damn! Why didn't I think of that??
