One of the best I have tried are serpbook.com - it's going to be almost impossible to get something free!

Proranktracker.com is free up to 50 keywords. You're not going to find anything completely free though.

Because there is no free services available (in my experience) And some of the about tools offers free searches but they put limitations on the free searches

The best free rank tracker i've used is serplab. Accurate, lots of info, updates on demand (on a free account sometimes there is a big queue and takes a while ) and let you track up to 300 keywords.
