Hi there! I'm interested in venturing into the realm of SEO and would appreciate guidance on analyzing SERP competition for a particular keyword. I aim to assess the feasibility of entering a specific niche. Additionally, I'm curious about the reliability of keyword difficulty metrics offered by various tools. Can you provide insights on these aspects?

Than you

I personally prefer checking things manually, with a little help from Keywords Everywhere.

Niche research, and keyword research are two different things.

Avoid YMYL niches as a beginner.

Look for "super narrow" (micro) niches, with decent traffic, where no-one has bothered to build an authority site.

As for the tools... They're OK for as an indicator, but you must double check everything.

Easy to rank keywords these days, are when intent and results don't fully align. SEO tools struggle with this, no matter what color or number they allocate.

Could you provide me with a bit more detail on how you do it, please? And do you only ensure that the results on the SERP address the search intent, or what else do you look at to assess the competition?

Yes, I only look at Google results to gauge competition.

It's pretty simple...
  • The intention behind the results are asymmetrical.
  • None of the websites fully satisfy user intent.
  • Nobody has purposely targeted the query.

There are many tools for this like semrush. If you do not want to pay initially, there are free tools from Google also.

SEMrush is great for this you can run a site audit to see how well they are in that respect, you can run a other tools to see how many referring domains and backlinks they have including the split for domain authority, country, TLD type etc. An of course you can then access what keywords they rank for track their position etc.
