do they really work? how many of them are needed to improve ranking?
how can backlink from wikipedia really improve ranking on Google search?

A Wikipedia link alone won't help. I have tried a site with 10-15 medium authority links and 25-30 Wikipedia links. Google didn't even see it as an authority site. Some random sites with a strong social media presence are outranking it. Wiki links might help if you have DA/DR 40+ and you want to send some trust signals.
