Hello guys!

I was checking Instagram recently (still a noob here) and I found many (thousands) of accounts travel related.
I kind of understand how bloggers make money from this: Probably they are being paid to write about/promote destinations, places, hotels, etc.
But what about accounts that just curate pictures from places? For example:
italian_places
italiaphoto
italyspots

These accounts just search and repost pictures from another accounts and tag the original authors (for credit purposes).

How can an account like this make money from IG? Can someone give me a hint?

Thanks in advance!

Shoutout is when you post something and mention another account in the caption?

Shoutout is like that, promoting others post/offer/story/status for money. It can be a pic/video, it can be for sending people to a website, or liking others on IG, or anything! You are renting them your audience for a post :)

Thanks for your answer. I really appreciate it.
But considering that this type of accounts are constantly searching for pictures from other users (and probably choosing the best ones) to repost, aren't they already doing shoutouts to the authors of the photos (when they mention their username in the caption for credits)? How can they charge others for something that they are doing for free in order to get content? You know what I mean?

Thanks in advance

Well, how do you know they are not shoutouts already? ;) Maybe they are already getting paid for those reposts! and it is not only content hunting :D

giving credits is necessary in a shoutout to send users to intended page, and in non shoutout posts to avoid copyrights :)

That's a good point. So it may be the case that they have both types of posts: paid (shoutouts) and free (regular posts to keep the page alive).

So, in the end of the day, these type of pages can only make money from shoutouts? I don't see what type of products they can promote in order to use affiliate links or things like that

I am really interested in the motivation of these accounts as well. But shoutouts are far more inefective than follow/unfollow or other black hat tactic. I don't know who pays for them

Yeah exactly. For example, I wouldn't buy a shoutout from another account

Hello everyone.

Second post here, woah!

I manage a travel/lifestyle account related to a spesific country in the luxury niche. The account has been active for one year and we have around 17 000 followers. I know, it is a small number in most cases but with this small of a niche its decent growth and it gives also decent exposure.

We have had some monetization opportunities by giving shoutouts to different types of accomodation businesses. For example, we made this campaign for a business that manages multiple rental cabins near a national park. Also I've had some pretty amazing meals for free for promoting restaurants.

We also use pictures from other people, so basically we give free shoutouts to the photographers but as a return we are able to put the best content our there and grow our following.

Our future plan to really turn this into an more stable business is creating a website, where we will offer this type of services and our focus for clients is trough our social media.

Hope this helps!
