How bad does duplicate content affect your website?

I'm dealing with this issue all the time with my clients.
If the different pages gives value to the reader, don't worry about dublicate content too much.

But whats valuable content you may ask?
Let me give you a real life example.

A client is setting up an ecommerce website selling perfumes, hair colors etc.
Now the hair colors are all same product, only different colors, so we have come up with something simple.

Each color has a sentence or two regarding the color.

Example given:
Blonde: Do blondes have more fun? If you ask blondes they certainly do.
Black: Did you know that black is the the most common hair color in the world?

Other things you can spin...This t-shirt is available in 3 different sizes, S, M & L
Sizes available Small, Medium and Large

Open up Notepad and write different variations for all sentences you can think of.
Doest matter if you only come up with 5 and your are going to use them on 10 or 20 different pages.
Spin them, and together with for example comments, they will be somewhat unique.

Remember...the key is to give value to the user.
