I've been trying to get throw down some elbow grease on web design and it's only paid off enough for me to not quit. I work mainly with Shopify and Wordpress, as well as custom graphics. I've only got a few minor jobs from upwork, One decent gig from GIGB2B and a few others from Craigslist or word of mouth. It's extremely irregular. I've tried cold calling and emailing to local businesses but everyone in need of services doesn't care or is already working with someone. What are your methods for reaching these people first? or where else can I look? Yelp and Yellowpages aren't cutting it for me.

I find most of my work going through agencies all over the country then my work requires me to relocate next to the clients office for 3-6months do start and finish the work so Im away from home alot too

You could join some related FaceBook groups and try and get some clients from there.

The company I used to work for had a guru account. I generally get projects through direct skype contacts thanks to BHW.

The thing with places like Upwork is there are people on there happy to do Tshirt designs for $5 and $7 a go.

It depends on what you're charging / wanting to charge.

even if you get a single client...give him great results...that will roll things for you....i have seen it happening with me....it results in more and more by word of mouth.

Facebook, twitter, a couple of forums, word of mouth.

You can try upwork.com or freelancer.com. You can create project and posting on their site. Or your can try in BHW market place too. Btw i have a lot of exp in Wordpress website.

Join buy/sell Facebook groups in your area as well as Craigslist. Make sure to have a couple sample sites for clients
