How are people actually monetizing Chrome extensions?

Not my cup of tea, but seeing the crazy offers people are getting for their extensions, one must wonder.
There is a trending YC article about a guy publishing all the emails he is getting with offers.

So how are these guys monetizing their installs and have it so profitable?
I get the part of selling data, but to who, where, how?

Someone in the know?

Without getting to the part with selling Data, If your extension has a web interface, you can still monetize it with ads, that's a simple Idea, then there is niched emails that may worth big $$$ for the right buyers.

Nah.. The main way people are monetizing extensions is privacy and data selling. You can also offer premium models etc, but that's where the huge incomes are. I know because i see many devs talk about it, but no real marketplace to see offers or more information, hence tricky.
