How Are Competitors Getting Links On These Sites?

I'm looking for targets to get backlinks from. So I'm checking my competitors backlinks on ahrefs and also
checking recommendations from semrush.

And I see these weird types of sites like this:

https://www.health-diamond.com/https://couponsfreetoday.com/
I don't wanna list them all. But I type in my niche and see people dropping links.

Yet I have no idea how they're doing it. Are these PBN sites? That semrush is recommending?

You can see the links in the categories like: https://www.health-diamond.com/mens-health/
You see links for menshealth.com or harvard.com.

Then it says "verified x days ago".

How are people getting / dropping / verifying links on these sites? There's no option to create a profile
I just don't get it.

this looks like a link directory. And yeah, it has no registration page, which makes me think that it's a website created specifically to build links, by an SEO agency like linksmanagement.com (just an example, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's this one)... So yeah, it's probably a SEO agency of sorts and they're providing their clients (harvard, menshealth, etc) with backlinks from it (they probably have 1000s of sites like this).

That's the only explanation I can think of, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :)
 
They're scraper sites, scraping from probably Google or Bing, and you can often force them to link to you just by searching for your site name or domain in their search box. It should create a page with your url on it, providing your site is actually in the search engines to begin with. I wouldn't say these sites have much worth though in the grand scheme of things.

harvard is in the game of buying links?! probably their name added as an authority site
 
In any case if you are interested in certain source for backlinks - find the way to contact them. But be ready that such kind of web sites are owned by your competitors.
 
Decent links that pop up on many ranking sites are usually from sites that accept guestposts that many link sellers have access to, look around and see if you can get links from them too!
 
These links happen automatically. Got hundreds of them. They are scraping Google, don't bother getting these links as they don't benefit you in any way.
 
One of the newer versions of GSA seems to have an engine that will build these types of links, the 'keyword tracking' engine in the indexer category. I haven't tried it yet though.
 
These sites might be just PBN created to boost the blogs of your competitors. You can also create in same way.

How they benefit from giving links to so many random sites in different niches?
