how anonymous are proxies?

im wondering with an anonymous working proxy can the government or anyone trace it back to your real i.p? Is there ways so this isn't possible?

for example i want to post on a forum(not this one) and I want it to be impossible to trace my real i.p(specifically from western governments).

Please no "oh dont worry they wont bother with you" or "you're just being paranoid"

Ask yourself this:
1.Is the proxy being hosted by a server that records data?
2.Is the connection between you and the proxy secure?
3.is the proxy a honeypot?

It depends on alot of things, The best proxy is your local starbucks free wi-fi

If they really want to get you, then they can check the CCTV of that area/etc, there are always ways, you are never 100% safe online from the police/FBI/CIA/MI6/whatever.

Yeah i thought about that. Thats why i drive around and use random peoples house wifi's in different neighborhoods. But its pretty gay and very inconvenient. And im always paranoid of people driving by and shit. It be way way way better if I could just stay at home and surf and run things from here.

How about getting a verizon (or whatever service) connection, but buying it with a VCC? Guess that wouldn't work for you in a foreign country. As for proxies, there are of course various levels of anonymity, but eventually (if they try hard enough) it could be traced back to you. War driving isn't such a bad idea really.

yeah its alright but its frustrating lol theres so many protected networks and only a few unprotected ones and some days they are unprotected and some days they arn't and i waste a tank like real fast. I just have to learn how to crack wep networks and it should be alot less hassle(most networks in this city are protected by that).

I actually bought a netbook specifically for these tasks

Cracking anything isn't easy, nor is it fast, it's pointless if your searching for protected wi-fi connections "on the go". Your better off running some sort of software which can log the location your at (via gps) and all found networks at that gps location.

Get Tor and it will be as good as impossible to trace your real IP through the proxy IP.
It's free
Cloakfish is the same just more control and faster but not 4 free.

If you search for real anonymity these anonymity nodes are the key, it's pretty advanced "technology".

Do not use any private proxies, public proxies, vpn or similar offers if you search for true anonymity. None of those can really protect you.
