Hi!

I'm getting throttled with bluehost on a shared plan for a site. It has approximately 1,000 UV per day, with about 6,000 PV per day. What specs should I be looking for either in a VPS, or any other sort of hosting plan that would make sense? I'm not looking for recommendations on hosting companies - rather what sort of spec should I be looking at when comparing plans against different companies?

I don't have lots of experience with any other hosting companies, what i can give you is what i use. I am using Hostmetro right now.
so far its good. Can even handle 10k+ traffics per day. but i don't know for future. I'm having a very little problem with it. That is 30 minutes downtime per month.

I don't promote this site nor affiliated with them. It is base on my experience.

Service is Good, Customer Support: Average?

hostwinds.... Way ahead of the league. Great support and service.
Business hosting plan will be good for you. Search for discounts though.

What package is handling this amount of volume for you?

They have a few business plans. Any idea which one would work? I talked to their online rep, and they tried pushing Tier 2/3 VPS Premium. I thought it might be a little overkill, which is why I figured I would post.

if you need a VPS hosting, then take atleast 1GB Ram and 2 core cpu, Hard disk according to your requirement, OpenVZ is ok but if you get KVM VPS that would be great. much more reliable

Depending on what you are running, 1000uv isn't an awful lot of traffic to deal with so most budget vps deals from a reputed host should keep you running smoothly. Post above is a good base spec imo (although I do have a couple of very cheap vps 512mb ram 2 cores that handles 2-6k uv daily on Wordpress based sites).

Also just wondering if using cloudflare would help negate the issues with bluehost? Worked for me on a couple of shared hosts.

Well it depends on your website. If it do not use heavy scripts then get a vps with 256+ Mb ram, 100 Mbps/1 Gbps port and 1 or more core cpu. Though i will recommend getting 512 Mb ram. Space depends on needs.
