Hosting Recommendation Needed

I currently own Hostgator baby plan, but I think its too expensive $11.95/month.Plus I am not sure if its SSD or not. I do have a domain associated with it , and now they are trying to charge $15 for domain too. It's almost a year now, so I am thinking too change the hosting service, I know this is a wrong place to ask these questions, but I was unable to post thread in hosting section so here i come.
What hosting service do you guys recommend? It should have unlimited addon domain, and what about VPS, should I go for it, how much does a VPS cost and what are its benefits?
