I am looking for a hosting recommendation for a web application (basic program that is accessible online and you have to purchase it in order to get access). I forecast that there will be between 500-1000 people using it on daily basis. What type of hosting would you recommend and what company?

I think that for me it is between VPS and Dedicated. I have heard good things about rackspace, networksolutions, and others. But never tried them.

Thanks

for 500-1000 visitor you can start with shared hosting
as 1000 visitors wont come online instant to my assumption
Based on response you can upgrade to vps or dedicated

In what that application will be coded?

You offer far vague details to get a proper answer.

A perl script will work faster and with less resources than a php script that do the same thing.

My best advice based on your details is to start small and get an idea of what resources you will need, i suppose you will not have 500-1000 visitors from the first day.

Second 500 - 1000 visitors is not so much.

And third try to get a hosting solution as close to the area where you expect your visitors to come from.

Thank you

Don't expect to run a serious SaaS on a shared host. You need a scalable vps with shell access to install and configure the software you need.
Amazon EC2 is good too.

I'd recommend you to look at hosting service from ifastnet.com.
There are many scripts in their pl;ans and there is a free firewall in their plans as well.
Prices are not high.
